I’ve clearly been holding out on you. My recipe for The Best Homemade Dinner Rolls Ever has been a viral sensation with millions of views and hundreds and hundreds of reviews, questions, and comments. Thousands if we count the ones on Facebook. So many people have requested my recipe for how I turn that same amazing dough into cinnamon rolls. Your wish is my command because here it is!

These are the perfect cinnamon rolls. They are soft, fluffy, and gooey all at the same time. They melt in your mouth when they are still warm. Basically, they are to die for. I have to be careful when I make them because we literally eat the whole pan at once. And there are only four of us.


Recipe Summary

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅔ cup white sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.

Sift together the flour, 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, baking powder and salt, set aside. In a medium bowl, cream together the 2/3 cup sugar and butter. Beat in 1 egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Stir in the dry ingredients.

On a lightly floured surface, divide dough into two pieces. Roll each piece into a log about 9 inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide. Place logs on the prepared baking sheet and flatten slightly. Brush with the beaten egg.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden and firm to the touch. Cool for 15 minutes.

On a cutting board, slice each log crosswise at a diagonal into 1/2 inch slices, using a serrated knife. Place back on the baking sheet, cut side down, and sprinkle with a mixture of the remaining cinnamon and sugar. Return to the oven for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, until toasted. Cool on wire racks, and store in an airtight container.


I decided to try Brown's recipe one more time

After my failed first attempt, I made a second batch. This time, I tried using active yeast as a substitute for instant yeast by following the simple instructions on the yeast packet. It worked perfectly.

I combined active yeast with warm water (I made sure the temperature was between 100 and 115 degrees Fahrenheit) and sugar and let it sit for 10 minutes before adding it to the mixer to make the dough, per the recipe's instructions.

The second time around, the dough definitely came out fluffier and stickier. It rose very well and was a bit harder to work with because it was so soft and sticky.


Why mess with perfection? Fluffy rolls and decadent frosting is perfect on its own, but if you’re like a few relatives we know, you can absolutely add nuts or raisins to this recipe. After you roll out the dough, sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture and add pecans, raisins, or any other ingredient you like, then roll it up and slice.

Once you roll up your dough into a “tube” shape you will want to slice off each individual roll (this is actually my favorite part). Don’t do this with a knife if you can help it! It will make it so your dough un-rolls and it will most-likely be uneven. The easiest thing to do is to get about 2 feet of dental floss and place it under the rolled dough, 1 inch from the end. Bring the floss up around the dough and cross it over the top, cutting through the dough and filling. Repeat at 1-inch intervals. WAY easier than using a knife.

Well since I’m finally back from my Disney vacation and feeling all refreshed, renewed and inspired I thought now would be the perfect time to post this recipe!

Especially since Christmas is right around the corner and so many people go into a cinnamon roll frenzy this time of year.

I have about 2-3 homemade cinnamon rolls recipes that I can actually make, because remember I’m awful at making anything that requires yeast and gentle care.

But these bad boys are fail-proof in my eyes!! Every time I make these cinnamon rolls I actually say to myself “wow Beyonce Monique… you nailed these”. They are like something straight out of a good bakery. Like… a really good bakery! Yep they’re that incredible.

Just layers of pillowy soft, sticky, brown sugar filling and decadent cream cheese glaze. Sweet mother of all things gluten please bless yourself with these.

Truth be told, I only make cinnamon rolls about once a year, usually when it snows. I’ve been getting so many requests for cinnamon rolls that I broke my normal tradition and made them on a sunny winters day. See how much I love you guys?

The best part is that these cinnamon rolls are ridiculously easy! Seriously it’s pretty much a dump and mix recipe. Of course you’ll have to wait for them to rise which sucks but hey, it’s totally worth it!

Tips For Making Homemade Cinnamon Rolls

1.) Don’t even think about proceeding with the recipe if your yeast doesn’t get all poofy and frothy.

2.)Mix just until ingredients are combined.

3.) Add the flour gradually and only add enough so that the dough doesn’t stick to a clean finger and pulls away from the bowl easily.
